Narrated/Authority of Sulaiman bin Amr bin Ahwas
that his father said: "I heard the Prophet (saw) say, during the Farewell Pilgrimage: 'O people! Which day is the most sacred?' three times. They said: 'The day of the greatest Hajj.' No father is to be punished for the sins of his child, and no child is to be punished for the sins of his father. From: Sahih Bukhari. Chapter 44, Lost Things Picked up by Someone (Luqaata)
Narrated/Authority of Suwaid bin Ghafala
While I as in the company of Salman bin Rabia and Zaid bin Suhan, in one of the holy battles, I found a whip. One of them told me to drop it, but I refused to do so and said that I would give it to its owner if I found him, otherwise I would utilize it. On our return we performed Hajj and on passing by Medina, I asked Ubai bin Kab about it. He said, "I found a bag containing a hundred Dinars in the lifetime of the Prophet (SAW) and took it to the Prophet (SAW) who said to me, 'Make public announcement about it for one year.' So, I announced it for one year and went to the Prophet (SAW) who said, 'Announce it publicly for another year.' So, I announced it for another year. I went to him again and he said, "Announce for another year." So I announced for still another year. I went to the Prophet (SAW) for the fourth time, and he said, 'Remember the amount of money, the description of its container and the string it is tied with, and if the owner comes, give it to him; otherwise, utilize it.' " Salama narrated the above from Ubai bin Kab, adding, "I met the sub-narrator at Makkah later on, but he did not remember whether Kab had announced what he had found one year or three years."

From: Imam Malik's Muwatta. Chapter 20, Hajj
Narrated/Authority of
Yahya related to me from Malik from Nafi that when Abdullah ibn Umar set out for Makka during the troubles (between al-Hajjaj ibn Yusuf and Zubair ibn al-Awwam) he said, "If I am blocked from going to the House we shall do what we did when we were with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace," and he went into ihram for umra, because that was what the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, did in the year of al-Hudaybiya. But afterwards, he reconsidered his position and said, "It is the same either way." After that he turned to his companions and said, "It is the same either way. I call you to witness that I have decided in favour of hajj and umra together." He then got through to the House (without being stopped) and did one set of tawaf, which he considered to be enough for himself, and sacrificed an animal. Malik said, "This is what we go by if someone is hindered by an enemy, as the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and his companions were. If some one is hindered by anything other than an enemy, he is only freed from ihram by tawaf of the House."
